Fragment of a textile (00488)
Exhibition room: I.5 Christian Egypt and Coptic art
Date: 5th-6th c.
Dimensions (cm): 43Χ22
The fragment depicts two fruit bowls with feet. The bowls are dark blue in colour and the fruits red and gold. The particular care which has been taken in the drawing of the objects and the strong colours show the influence of Hellenistic art. It can be dated to the 5th or 6th centuries and was probably part of a domestic cover or curtain.
