Researchers’ Night

The Researchers’ Night 2007 programme: “Arts, Crafts and Professions of the Past through the Researchers’ Eyes” was part of the 7th Framework in the “People” section (FP7-PEOPLE-2007-5-1-1-NIGHT).

The programme sought to make research on issues of culture accessible to the general public through a number of specific exhibitions and events addressing Mediaeval art staged in parallel on the evening of 28 September 2007 in Athenian research institutions and important culture spaces. Efforts were made to introduce the public to the way in which museums work and to increase their interest in research into the historic past through information on artistic artefacts, everyday utility objects and Mediaeval trades.

The programme lasted 6 months: the first three were dedicated to designing the events, the 4th to their implementation, the 5th to their evaluation and the final month to disseminating their results and the experience gleaned by participating institutions: the National Research Foundation, Athens; the Byzantine and Christian Museum, Athens; the National Observatory, Athens; the Museum of Byzantine Culture, Thessaloniki and the VIII Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, Ioannina.
