On Sunday, October 19, the European Day of Conservation of Cultural Heritage will be celebrated across Europe with a series of events and activities aimed at familiarizing the public with the conservation of antiquities and works of art, and highlighting its important role in safeguarding cultural heritage.

At the Byzantine and Christian Museum, the Department of Conservation of Antiquities, Works of Art, and Archaeometry will host a range of activities for adults, presented in groups of 8–12 participants.

Conservation and Mounting Methods of Detached Wall Paintings at the Byzantine & Christian Museum
Guided tour of the museum’s permanent exhibition and the wall painting conservation workshop, presenting actual conservation cases.

Conservation of Manuscripts and Printed Works at the Byzantine & Christian Museum
Tour of the manuscripts, printed works, and paper conservation laboratory, revealing the materials and methods used to preserve the museum’s rare and valuable collection.

Conservation of Icons at the Byzantine & Christian Museum
Tour of the icons and woodcarving conservation workshop and a brief visit to the permanent exhibition. Participants will observe conservation stages of various icons from the museum’s collection.
