PRESS RELEASE- 'AROUND BYZANTIUM'

As part of the lecture series “Around Byzantium”, the Byzantine and Christian Museum invites you on Tuesday, 30 September 2025, at 19:00, to the event “The Biblical Susanna, from Byzantium to the Present Day”, on the occasion of the publication of Markos DefaranasΆ book, History of Susanna, by the University of Crete Press, edited by David Holton & Tasoula M. Markomichelaki.

The event will be coordinated by Assoc. Professor of Modern Greek Philology at the Department of Philology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and editor of the volume, Tasoula M. Markomichelaki.

Speakers include:

  • David Holton, Emeritus Professor of Modern Greek Philology, University of Cambridge, and editor of the volume

  • Ulrich Mönnig, Professor of Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology, University of Hamburg

  • Kirki Kefalea, Professor of Comparative Religious Literature, School of Theology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

  • Ioanna Char. Sandraveli, Head of the Icon Collection Department, BCM

The event will be musically accompanied by Dimitris Kountouras (Renaissance flutes) and Ieva Baublyte (harp and Renaissance flutes), performing music of the Renaissance inspired by Susanna.
